As you may well know if it was not for the Parish Council and a team of volunteers from the village our library would have closed on the 1st April. It has now been saved under a Community Library Partnership with Somerset County Council.
The Parish Council and the volunteers believe that libraries are crucial hubs for inspiring creativity and feeding imagination for all generations within their communities. Every good village needs one.
As from the 1st July, we will have increased the opening hours, the library will be having a refurbishment and we have some interesting plans for the future use of the library. If we can increase the usage of the library and increase the number of volunteers, then we will increase opening hours further hopefully to cover the whole week and possibly an evening session.
However, the library is not safe, it’s a case of use it or lose it.
What does a community library offer me a resident of the village and its neighbouring communities;
• The opportunity to access over 2 million books.
• Hire games, music and films.
• Join clubs e.g. Lego club, reading circles and many more.
• Join in events such as the fun summer reading challenge.
• An opportunity to meet people and increase community spirit.
• Book time on a computer to access the internet/ check e mails / research family history sites etc
The Parish Council and the volunteers want to work with the community to offer exciting new opportunities based around the library. It is our intention to use the library for small clubs and events, so if you have an idea for a club/ event then come and speak to us.
If you have not visited the library in a while, then please visit us after the 1st July and see the refurbishment that has taken place and while you are there why not become a member or renew your membership, let us know what you would like from YOUR library
