POOP SCOOP
Your Parish Council would like to remind all dog owners of their responsibility to bag and bin dog mess.
There are currently 5 dog bins in Cotford St Luke and 2 in Bishops Lydeard. The Parish Council has asked Taunton Deane to provide a further 2 bins in Bishops Lydeard.
However, providing dog bins is only part of the solution – we need dog owners to help as well.
Most dog owners are responsible and understand the importance of clearing up after their pets, but there are still a few people who don’t and this leaves potentially harmful mess behind.
Dog mess is more than a nuisance – it can harbour toxocara canis, a roundworm which can be transferred to humans following contact with dog mess. Symptoms are aches and pains, bronchial conditions and in more severe cases can lead to damage to eyesight. Children are particularly at risk.
Virtually all areas where the public have access are covered by the legislation which means that those who flout the rules can be issued with a fixed penalty fine of £50 – or prosecution which can result in a maximum £1,000 fine.
Special dog waste bags can be bought along with poop scoops at most pet shops. A simple plastic carrier can do the job as well as long as it is tied up and disposed of properly. If there are no dog bins in the area, the bag should be taken home and placed in an outside bin.
SO PLEASE REMEMBER TO BAG AND BIN YOUR POOCH POOP!
