Bishops Lydeard Community Garden

On Saturday 7th October seven hardy volunteers dug over the bed which will form part of new garden. The next step will be the relocation of the bench and the grassing of the whole area around the bed and roundabout by the site contractors. The garden will then be enclosed by a hedge to the rear of the bed and seat. We are fortunate to have a grant from the Parish Council to cover most of the costs and the village Co-op has also donated £20 for bulbs.

Shrubs and hedging plants are on order from Triscombe Nurseries and will be delivered to the site for planting on the morning of Saturday 4th November. We will be re-using some of the perennials from the former garden and so do not need any more plants but donations of spring bulbs (or cash donations) can be brought along on the day or would be gratefully received at 23, Woodridge Mead, Bishops Lydeard. Bulbs not needed in the garden will be planted in the banks around the underpass. We also need some red sandstone blocks to edge the garden, preventing damage by vehicles and cycles, so if you have some to donate please get in touch. We may be able to collect them.

I hope the garden will enhance the entrance to the village from the railway station and will be enjoyed by local residents for many years to come. If you would like to help with the planting or future maintenance of the garden, please give me a ring on: 01823 433031.
