Brick, Brick, Glorious Brick

Brick, Brick, Glorious Brick is a series of five illustrated talks by Peter Harrison about the products of the brickmaker and their use within the construction of some notable buildings, both locally and nationally.

The talks (one a month) will be held at St. Mary’s Church Centre, Bishops Lydeard at 7 30 pm. Admission is by donation for the Church.

1. An Introduction to Clay Masonry on Friday 10th November at 7.30 pm

It is commonly assumed that brick is always a second choice to stone, but brick has its own logic and advantages and skilled designers, engineers and craftsmen have long known how to exploit them. The story starts at the beginning of civilization and continues to the present day, with developments such as faience and terra-cotta adding to the brick’s versatility.

2. Decorative Brickwork and other Delights on Friday 10th December

3. Two Brick Houses: Oxburgh Hall & Blickling Hall on Friday 12th January

4. Wellington’s Brickwork on Friday 9th February

5. Chequers: The Prime Minister’s Country House on Friday 9th March
