Kings Church Quantocks 20th Anniversary

On Sunday 24 September 2017 Kings Church Quantocks will be celebrating its 20th. We are looking forward to wonderful day of celebration starting with our 10.30 am Service led by Howard Jones of Urban Expression followed by lunch and later by afternoon tea. We are delighted that our dear friends, the Mayor of Taunton Deane, Hazel Prior-Sankey and her Consort Adrian will be with us on the day.

Kings Church Quantocks started 20 years ago when a handful of people started meeting in a home. It grew rapidly and moved into a building in Kings Yard. After many happy years there we needed more room so we moved our services to Bishops Lydeard Village Hall. This turned out to be the best thing we ever did – all Christians know that the church is “the people not the steeple”. We became a Christian Church without walls and were placed at the heart of the community.

We are enormously grateful to the Bishops Lydeard Village Hall Management Committee and their generous supporters who have transformed the village hall over recent years. The hall is now a great venue for events large and small from children’s parties, exercise classes, etc. to Flower Shows and Festivals. It has a marvellous kitchen, different sized halls with video screens and with the recent addition of a large stage will prove a great asset for the village for years to come.

Our hope is to be a living, loving, supportive community church not only bringing the “good news” but also serving the community and bringing people together in and around the Quantock area. In 2008, we held our Hope08 Community fair and we were delighted by the ripple effect that followed leading to many brilliant community events in the village. In 2012, we introduced “Messy Church” at the village hall and have great times of songs, crafts, stories and super food. The hall has witnessed the fall of the walls of Jericho, the great flood, Noah’s Ark and the rainbow and the “burning bush” and is still intact!

Kings Church Quantocks services are relaxed, informal and suit all ages. KCQ music is usually provided by a worship group made up of a mix of guitarists, pianists, and singers etc. with lyrics projected on to a large screen. Children are very important and there are always activities especially for them.

At KCQ not only are we are blessed by having a number of regular “in house” speakers of great experience on Sunday mornings but also a wide range of notable visiting speakers who provide deep insights, inspiration, challenge and encouragement.

We realise of course that whilst what we do on Sunday is important, what we do during the week is equally if not more important. That is why we are involved locally as volunteers with and supporters of Taunton Foodbank, Taunton Area Debt Advice and Seedlings etc. On the national and international stage, we support Open Doors, Fairtrade Foundation, Gideons International, Operation Christmas Child, Project Ruth, Project Olive Grove, Urban Expression and Tearfund.

The last twenty years have been enormously rewarding and people ask what our secret is? Our reply may be found in Psalm 118 verse 23. Next year marks the start of Hope18 in the UK. In a time of change and uncertainty we all need love, joy, peace and most of all hope.
