Co-op Community Causes

Patrons of Bishops Lydeard Co-op have provided money for three local community groups: the 3rd Taunton Bishops Lydeard Scout Group, Bishops Lydeard School Association, and
Lydeard St. Lawrence Parents, Teachers and Friends Association. Each received an award of £1581 from a scheme organised by the Co-op in which one per cent from sales of Co-op own brand goods is donated to local groups. The presentation was made to staff, parents and children from the three organisations on 19th April by the manager of the local Bishops Lydeard branch, Debbie Leat.

At Bishops Lydeard Church School a library has been created in a space occupied by a corridor. Staff and children have decided to spend the money on more Big Books to add to the library as well as subscriptions for magazines and comics.

The children on the School Council went to each class to ask them for the names of the magazines and comics they would like to read. The Headteacher, Mrs Stoddart, said that the children are all developing a love of reading as well as learning from the new resources in the library. The school has been nominated for the scheme again and will receive another donation in due course.
