Parish Council Notes
The Annual Report
Bishops Lydeard & Cothelstone Parish Council Notes (includes Cotford St Luke)
April 2008
Cllr John Wilkins reported on the recent Red Route seminar attended
by him and Cllr Paul Partington. This is a scheme being introduced
around the country to identify particularly dangerous routes
with a high level of accidents. These routes will be classified as Red Routes and have appropriate signage. A review is currently being
undertaken of the A39/A358 which has been identified as falling into
this category.
Cllr Joanna Lewin Harris reported that the MUGA had received a
grant of £5,500 from the Somerset Community Foundation, which
had been spent on tennis coaching, multi sport activities and the purchase
of sports equipment. Safety improvements have been undertaken
at the MUGA costing £375 which will be paid out of funds already
allocated from the Parish Council.
Cllr Greg Allen advised that various grants totalling £110,000 had
been received by the Village Hall Management Committee. These
funds will allow work to start later in the year on the provision of a
new Small Hall which will release space in the existing Small Hall for
alternative uses.
An alternative position for a replacement bench at Hithermead was
still under review and this, together with updated costings for the refurbishment
of other benches, will be raised again at the May meeting It has been agreed to provide an information plaque regarding the
Fives Wall in Bishops Lydeard and the wording and location will now
be considered. It has been ascertained that the Wall is owned by
the Lethbridge Arms and maintenance issues will be taken up with
them.
Following recent requests regarding improved signage and links between
the Bishops Lydeard railway station and the village, Cllrs
Philip Morency and Paul Partington will meet with Robin White of the
WSR to discuss this.
The next meeting is on Wednesday, 23rd April 2008 at 7.00pm at
Bishops Lydeard Village Hall. The Annual Parish Meeting and the
Annual Parish Council meeting will be held on Wednesday, 14th May
2008.
