Bishops Lydeard & Cothelstone Parish Council Notes
The Parish Council met on Wednesday 14 August at 7 pm in Bishops Lydeard Village Hall.
David Greig, Taunton Deane’s Parish Liaison Officer gave an update on plans to create a new Parish for Cotford St Luke. There will be a new Parish Council consisting of 7 members and the boundary of the new Parish will follow the existing Cotford St Luke ward on Bishops Lydeard Parish Council. It has been agreed to appoint a temporary clerk to carry out the necessary preparation work prior to the elections. A permanent clerk will then be appointed by the new Parish Council.
Following receipt of correspondence from Somerset County Council about a number of suggested highway improvements, it was agreed to ask for precise costings for dropped kerbs at Mount Street, near the Lydeard Mead/Hither Mead crossing and at West Street. Further information about pedestrian improvements around the Lethbridge Arms was also requested. The County Council would not be able to fund these improvements, so the Parish Council would have to bear the cost.
A discussion took place about the provision of a cycle routes between Bishops Lydeard, Cotford St Luke and Taunton and it was agreed to write to both Taunton Deane and Somerset County Council flagging up the importance to the local community of making progress with these routes.
It was agreed to write to Somerset County Council expressing concern about the length of time it has taken to complete the lease on Cotford St Luke Community Hall and asking that they take urgent steps to deal with this.
It was agreed to order 4 grit bins for Quantock View, Knapp Lane, Cushuish Lane and Graham Way, Cotford St Luke.
Community planting of the area by Bishops Lydeard Underpass with ground cover plants and small bulbs will take place on Saturday 18 September at 10 am. All welcome to come and join in.
The Quantock Hills AONB plans to set up a Network to share local knowledge and expertise around the management of the Quantock Hills. This will be run through an on-line portal with a couple of meetings a year to help participants get to know each other. They seek volunteers from each Parish with personal enthusiasm for the preservation of the Quantock Hills and good contacts with their Parish organisations and residents. Please contact the Clerk to the Parish Council (clerk@bishopslydeard.org or phone 01823 432658) if you would be interested or would like more information.
