As I am sure you are all aware we are in the throes of an economic downturn. Taunton Deane is not immune from this and has written to the Church to say that they can no longer afford to maintain the floodlighting system.
At the current time the power used by the floodlights comes from an un-metered supply from the energy company. Taunton Deane maintains the system and replaces the bulbs when they die. From April 1st they are no longer going to provide this service and have offered the Church tw...

An appeal has been launched to help villagers in Lydeard St Lawrence and Tolland mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012.

On the staffing front Jenni Thorne, our Deputy Head Teacher, returned from maternity leave and in November Rhianne Cooper joined us as a clerical assistant.
Our pupil numbers have increased and are currently 216, the highest they have been for a few years. Currently, the pupils are organized into seven classes with some mixed class tea...

President, Mrs. Mary Abel took the Chair and welcomed Mr Ray Cave who gave an illuminating talk on being a Magistrate.
To most people’s surprise he explained that all Magistrates are volunteers, receiving only a small reimbursement for travelling expenses. They received extensive training, but as the Magistrates Court was divided into various sections each person tended to specialize. He, himself, with a background of parenting, adoptive parenting and many years of fostering, dealt ma...

On 16th November 2011 we met in the old small hall for a quiz. Viv Allen had dreamt this up to see how many people had paid attention at the previous meeting, when Ann Pattemore spoke on India. Fortunately, this was a quiz done table by table and not an individual exam!! No table got all the questions right but 17/20 was the top score. Everyone then had time for a chat and a cuppa before wending their way home.
On 21st December over 50 of us met in the large hall (we thought the badmi...
