Press Bulletin

Refuse and recycling collections in Somerset continue to be affected by ice and snow during this extended cold spell.   Overnight snow in all parts of the county has brought renewed challenges but with an improving forecast we hope to catch up as much as possible later this week and into the weekend.

Our advice is therefore to place your recycling and refuse out for collection on your scheduled collection day.  If it is not collected that day and you can safely leave it out, please do so and it will be collected as soon as possible, weather permitting.

If you cannot safely leave it out, either bring it in at night and put it out in the morning until it is collected, or store it in a shed or garage until your next scheduled collection day.

Where collections have already been missed, in catching up we are prioritising those who have gone longest without a collection, depending on whether roads and pavements can be safely negotiated. Where possible please ensure your waste is available for collection while we try and catch up.

There are eighteen Household Waste Recycling Centres across Somerset, open 9am to 5pm seven days a week, where recycling and refuse can be taken if it is not possible to wait for a collection.

On Wednesday 13th January all sites are open except Coleford (north-west of Frome).  Residents are advised to take care when using sites.
